The Yellowstone Association

In its more than 60 years, the non-profit Yellowstone Association has provided $5.4 million (more than half of that in the last five years) to Yellowstone National Park to support hundreds of educational, historic, and scientific programs. Educational bookstores in Yellowstone's visitor centers are run by the Association, with proceeds from purchases going to improve park exhibits, expand ranger-led educational programs, support the Yellowstone Institute, and maintain the park's research library. Education is essential to preserving this national treasure -- we thank you for your help.

The Association's goal is to educate the public to a better understanding and appreciation of the Yellowstone area and what it represents in terms of our historical and natural heritage. You can be part of this effort by becoming a member of the Yellowstone Association.

Among the Yellowstone Association's past and present projects are the following:

  • Operates book sales outlets in Visitor Centers throughout the park with proceeds going to support educational, historic, and scientific programs
  • Founded the Yellowstone Institute in 1976 to operate a field school in and around Yellowstone, and serves as its sponsoring organization
  • Publishes trail guides for self-tours of thermal areas
  • Publishes books and pamphlets pertaining to Yellowstone
  • Assists naturalists with visitor information services at Visitor Centers
  • Aids naturalists with distribution of schedules of programs for visitors
  • Administers grants and gifts received for designated projects in Yellowstone
  • Helps fund seasonal training for park naturalists
  • Contributes funds for park exhibits and research equipment
  • Donated computer equipment to the naturalist division for use in preparing the park newspaper and schedules of ranger-led activities
  • Donated research library collections to Yellowstone National Park
  • Provides continued support of Yellowstone's research library through purchase of books and periodicals and employment of part-time librarians.

The Yellowstone Association for Natural Science, History and Education, Inc., is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization.
